Shah Alam is undergoing a remarkable transformation into a cosmopolitan city, emphasising smart city projects, enhanced connectivity, and the promotion of cultural tourism.
Over time, Selangor’s capital city has witnessed significant infrastructure enhancements to meet global standards. These improvements encompass the development of state-of-the-art transportation networks, the enhancement of highways and roads, and the upgrading of community amenities such as parks, recreational areas, and utilities.
According to a property consultant, the state government is actively driving economic diversification by attracting foreign investments and fostering the expansion of industries beyond the existing sectors. This strategy includes the implementation of business-friendly policies, offering incentives to international companies to establish branches or headquarters in Shah Alam, and supporting entrepreneurship and innovation. Additionally, there is a notable focus on tourism development, encompassing the creation of tourist attractions, preservation of historical sites, and organisation of events that highlight the city’s culture, heritage, and traditions. These efforts have resulted in a thriving tourism industry and heightened international recognition.
Aligned with Shah Alam’s aspirations to become a global city, the renowned i-City, a state-of-the-art international city with a budget of RM10 billion, has launched the initiative “One Shah Alam, One Destination.” This endeavour kicks off with exciting year-end festivities, symbolising the city’s commitment to creating a unified and captivating destination for residents and visitors alike.
i-City, conceived by Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong, the founder and chairman of I-Berhad, is an innovative development centered around technology. It seamlessly integrates residential, commercial, leisure, and entertainment elements, embodying a modern and forward-thinking concept.
Renowned for its dynamic and futuristic atmosphere, i-City showcases a unique blend of technology, digital advancements, and recreational attractions. Today, i-City’s landscape boasts globally recognized brand names such as Central i-City Mall, DoubleTree by Hilton Shah Alam i-City, and Best Western. These establishments are complemented by prominent landmarks like Mercu Maybank and the esteemed City of Digital Lights, which has received recognition from CNN.
According to Tan Sri Lim, i-City will play a significant role in expediting Shah Alam’s progression into a global metropolis by injecting vitality and inclusivity into the city’s development. i-City has exciting new additions in store, including a 50,000-square-foot Digital Sports Arena, an aerodrome, enhanced digital lighting installations, a 5-D snow experience center, and immersive and interactive features at Red Carpet 2.
Gagan Talwar, the General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Shah Alam i-City, takes pride in the fact that Shah Alam possesses only one 5-star hotel that meets global standards.
One of the key selling points of i-City as a destination, according to Talwar, is its distinct composition of four major components. These include the commercial aspect, represented by Mercu Maybank, and the residential aspect. However, the most captivating features are the retail offering through Central i-City Mall and the adjacent theme parks.
Talwar highlights the advantage of having a buffer zone where guests can enjoy their time away from the hotel. Event organisers seek a destination that can provide such attractions and amenities, making i-City an appealing choice.
