The Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) introduced its latest Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiative, the Fabric Recycling Campaign, in partnership with Kloth Cares on October 6, 2023. This campaign is a part of MITEC’s broader ESG program known as #myWorld, designed to make a significant and long-lasting impact on sustainability.
Launched alongside the prestigious CIMB Artober Art & Soul 2023 and CIMB Artober Fashion Week 2023, held at MITEC from October 5th to 8th, #myWorld aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It serves as the foundation of MITEC’s mission, which not only drives economic growth and job creation but also uplifts local communities through strategic partnerships with associations, corporations, academic institutions, and event organisers. MITEC is dedicated to shaping a brighter and more sustainable future for the business events landscape.
The partnership with Kloth Cares, Southeast Asia’s pioneering textile-recycling movement, marks MITEC’s inaugural step toward promoting a circular economy. The collected fabrics from the campaign undergo sorting at Kloth Cares’s recycling center. High-quality fabric items are either exported or donated to charities, while the remainder is upcycled into products like industrial wiping cloths and processed engineered fuel, a type of biofuel.
The Fabric Recycling Campaign was inaugurated by Ms. Mala Dorasamy, CEO of MITEC; Ms. Nik Susila Nik Hassan, Co-Founder of Kloth Cares; and Mr. Ismail Ani Arope, Director of CIMB Group Corporate Events and Group Branding and Communications. They personally officiated the campaign by making heartfelt donations of preloved clothing.
Notably, the fabric collection bin used for the campaign is exclusively crafted from eco-friendly cardboard. This sustainable approach extends to the entire #myWorld information booth and backdrop, demonstrating MITEC’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices. The use of cardboard in constructing this event setup not only showcases their dedication to sustainability but also highlights the remarkable durability and recyclability of this material, affirming the synergy between impressive and eco-conscious designs.
