Sabah recently played host to the BE in Sabah business forum, a two-day affair that has left a significant economic footprint, boasting a total impact of RM1.38 million, according to Datuk Dr. Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki, Chief Executive Officer of the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) and the Malaysian Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers (MACEOS) Sabah Chapter Chair.
Datuk Rosmawati revealed that the event generated RM588,800 through direct expenditure from 500 attending delegates, complemented by tax revenues totalling RM35,328.
In a post-event report meeting at SICC, Datuk Rosmawati underscored the event’s role in job creation, with approximately 100 opportunities arising for the local community. The report findings were disseminated to members of the MACEOS Sabah chapter and key strategic partners.
Emphasising the tangible benefits of business events, Datuk Rosmawati highlighted their positive economic implications for individuals and governmental entities alike. She affirmed SICC’s preparedness to host similar forums, with plans underway for an event slated on February 27 and 28 2025, expected to draw at least 650 participants.
Post the BE in Sabah forum, Datuk Rosmawati noted a surge in interest from international expos and conferences to hold events in Sabah, recognising the region’s emergence as a preferred destination. Moreover, the forum succeeded in attracting local participants, further enhancing engagement in business events within Sabah.
Datuk Rosmawati stressed the importance of raising local awareness about the economic benefits of hosting business events in Sabah, while highlighting the government’s pivotal role in capitalising on these opportunities. She conveyed a resounding message to the global community that Sabah is fully equipped to host business events with proficiency.
