Labuan is renowned for its world-class wreck diving, featuring four iconic sites: the American WreckAustralian WreckCement Wreck, and Blue Water Wreck. Among them, two date back to World War II, while the other two are from the 1980s. These submerged relics rest at depths ranging from 30 to 36 meters, with their upper sections accessible at 10 to 26 meters. Visibility varies with the seasons, offering anywhere from 5 to 20 meters of underwater clarity. Diving experiences cater to all levels—from novice wreck divers to seasoned explorers venturing deep into the hulls.

MV TUNG HWANG

Cement Wreck

Once a Japanese freighter, the Cement Wreck is the shallowest of the four, with its superstructure rising to 19 meters. Its upright position makes it easily navigable, ideal for advanced diving training. The upper half is beautifully draped in a thriving coral garden, attracting a vibrant array of marine life. Its unique name stems from its fateful last voyage, transporting cement to Brunei for the Sultan’s new palace when it sank.

MV MABINI PADRE

Blue Water Wreck

A former Philippine fishing trawler, the Blue Water Wreck met its fate in 1981 after catching fire, though fortunately with no casualties. Positioned farthest from the coast, it benefits from crystal-clear waters, often boasting visibility of up to 40 meters on exceptional days. Resting on its side with masts intact, it has become a haven for marine life, offering an unforgettable experience for advanced divers with deep-water expertise.

USS SALUTE

American Wreck

The American Wreck—originally the USS Salute, a US Navy Minesweeper—sank in 1945 after striking a mine, tragically claiming the lives of nine US sailors. This wreck is steeped in history, evoking a sense of solemnity with its remnants of war: bullet clips, depth charges, wire bottles, and cannon artifacts remain scattered throughout the tangled remains of the ship, offering divers a poignant journey through time.

SS DE KLERK

Australian Wreck

Originally a Dutch steamship, the Australian Wreck met its end in 1944 after hitting a mine, sinking 23 km southwest of Labuan, resulting in the loss of 339 lives. Shrouded in mystery and tales of being haunted, the wreck lies beneath less than 10 meters of visibility, entwined with rich coral growth. Its skeletal remains tell the story of its tragic demise, offering a uniquely atmospheric and hauntingly beautiful dive experience.
