BIGSABAH Sale 2026 – Beyond Shopping, Towards New Markets

0

From a shopping showcase to a platform for business connections, BIGSABAH Sale 2026 is looking beyond the exhibition floor and towards new markets for Sabah businesses.

When BIGSABAH Sale returns to the Sabah International Convention Centre from 30 October to 1 November 2026, it will bring together the colour and energy of a major shopping and lifestyle event. But behind the bustling exhibition floor is a bigger ambition.

It is about creating opportunities for Sabah businesses to connect with buyers, distributors, investors and markets beyond the state.

With the theme Across Markets, Beyond Borders, BIGSABAH Sale 2026 is expanding its focus beyond the consumer experience, drawing on Sabah’s products, entrepreneurs and strategic location to strengthen regional connections.

Turning Local Connections into
Regional Opportunities

As organising chair Datuk Dr. Hajah Rosmawati Haji Lasuki, J.P puts it, the focus is increasingly about creating opportunities that continue beyond the event itself.

Across Markets, Beyond Borders is about opening up possibilities for our businesses. We want to create a platform where a Sabah product can meet the right buyer, find the right distributor and eventually reach markets beyond our shores. That is the kind of impact we hope BIGSABAH Sale can create.

From Shopping to Market Access

Sabah has no shortage of quality products, talented entrepreneurs and promising businesses. The bigger question is how these businesses can reach more customers and enter new markets.

That is where BIGSABAH Sale sees an opportunity. The event continues to offer businesses direct access to consumers, while placing greater emphasis this year on business matching, trade connections and market access. The objective is to create opportunities that continue beyond the three day event, whether through new partnerships, distribution arrangements or potential expansion into international markets.

There are already examples of what can happen when those connections are made.

A Thai exhibitor selling cashew nuts, for instance, found strong demand during the event and subsequently appointed a local distributor in Sabah. A Sabah made tempeh product also found its way to Marina Bay Sands in Singapore through connections made during industry engagements.

These may be individual success stories, but they point towards a bigger possibility: a local exhibition can become a starting point for businesses to enter new markets.

Thinking Beyond Sabah

The opportunity extends beyond Sabah’s population of around four million.

Situated within the BIMP-EAGA region, Sabah offers access to a wider East ASEAN market of around 80 million people. That geographical advantage has increasingly become part of the conversation as BIGSABAH Sale reaches out to international partners and potential exhibitors.

Interest from China, in particular, has highlighted the potential for Sabah to serve as a gateway into neighbouring markets including Brunei, Indonesia and the Philippines.

For a local entrepreneur, that could mean a very different outcome from simply making sales at an exhibition. A business could arrive with a product from any district in Sabah and leave with a distributor, a buyer, a business partner or a new market to explore.

That is where Across Markets, Beyond Borders takes on a more practical meaning.

Creating Value Beyond the Exhibition Floor

The impact of a business event is also felt far beyond the exhibitors.

Visitors stay in hotels, dine at restaurants, use transport services and explore destinations. Exhibitors engage contractors, event suppliers and logistics providers. Business meetings can lead to partnerships, investment and future travel.

The Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) itself reflects this broader role.

Since moving into full operation in 2024, SICC has increasingly positioned itself not simply as a venue, but as a platform for bringing people, businesses and opportunities into Sabah.

BIGSABAH Sale fits naturally into that ecosystem. The event brings together commerce, tourism, lifestyle and business engagement in one platform, creating opportunities for different parts of the economy to benefit from the movement of people and business.

A Bigger BIGSABAH Experience

The 2026 edition is also broadening the experience beyond traditional retail.

Visitors can look forward to BIGSABAH Voice 2026, the AI Business Scale Up Bootcamp, The Elite Workshops, Cult Car Culture Festival 2026, Agro Forum and Trade Connect, fashion shows, esports competitions, the BIG BAD WOLF Book Fair, Jualan Rahmah and the Nescafe Tarik Show.

Together, these elements create a more diverse platform that brings business, lifestyle, entertainment and community participation under one roof.

The ambition is reflected in the target of 100,000 visitors, with participation already confirmed from nine countries and discussions continuing with additional international partners.

Beyond the Three Days

The real measure of BIGSABAH Sale may ultimately be what happens after visitors go home and the exhibition halls close.

These are the connections that can give a consumer event a much longer economic life.

BIGSABAH Sale 2026 is therefore entering its next chapter with a broader proposition. Shopping remains at its heart, but the opportunity extends further, towards business connections, market access and regional collaboration.

For Sabah’s entrepreneurs, Across Markets, Beyond Borders is not simply a theme.

It captures the opportunity to take local products further and turn connections made at BIGSABAH Sale into possibilities beyond the event itself.
