Gugak Show, a traditional Korean music performance that blends the tradition of East with the modern styles of West, where you can immerse yourself with the beautiful and mesmerising movements of dancers and the amazing skills of the musicians.
The impressive Gugak show is a fusion performance of the value and contemporary music of Korean tradition with a hologram video and a variety of music genres such as rock, pop and electronic music.
This wonderful non-verbal performance is directed by the famous music director Colleen Park and performed by Korea’s top female Gugak artists using traditional Korean instruments, namely janggu (hourglass-shaped drum), gayageum (12-string plucked zither), haegeum (2-string spike fiddle), daegeum (large transverse bamboo flute) and ajaeng (bowed zither).
The show showcases nine crossover stages, including two-person ensemble, five-member ensemble, folk medley with the audience, a reinterpretation with Korean dance and Korean music, Seoljanggu and Ogomu for about 75 minutes.
The rhythmical music performance begins with epic sounds of gayageum and ajaeng on the stage that is beautifully mapped and coordinated with diverse colours of electronic lights. During the “Foley Sound” session, audience can experience themselves on the stage and sings along to familiar folk music medley with sentimental Gugak.
It is also worth paying attention to Seoljanggu, a solo janggu performance with pop music in the background that bursts with energy, as well as the powerful Ogomu performance that makes use of 5 sets of drums, also known as the Five Drums Dance.
The talented female musicians will impress you with classic Korean instruments in the traditional Gugak show, leaving you a memorable and exciting blesuire trip in Seoul.
