Opened on 15 June 2015, Ipoh Bali Hotel was converted from an old bungalow into a beautiful Balinese style boutique hotel, located in the heart of Ipoh. The black volcanic stone walls give Ipoh Bali Hotel a dark and charming façade, contrasted against cheery-white properties along Lorong Cheah Cheang Lim. Under the sun’s glare, red accents glow together with wood, foliage, rock and water tempering the overall effect.
Welcome Guests with Ipoh’s Balinese
Upon arrival at the hotel, guests would be greeted with extensive rustic wood and stone elements that quintessentially Balinese.
In fact, solid wood plays a central role in the overall hotel’s aesthetic. Besides featuring a Balinese theme, which indicates that most decorative items were brought in from the Indonesian Bali island, designers of the hotel had also improvised and recycled as much as possible, for example, black rocks from Sungai Siput for its Balinese garden, wooden bridge from Lumut jetty, door frame from KTM railway tracks and reusing other wood for flooring. The wood and planks have been treated and given coats of varnish to bring out the shine in them. There are also intricate wooden carvings and designs decorating the walls to match the Balinese theme.
The reception hall carries the same elements of wood and stone but with unexpected touches. Above a Balinese stone craving of horses chomping at their bits is a picture of a man ridding between two galloping bulls with a foot on each saddle adds unexpected energy to the entrance hall.
A full height intricate stone carving stands tall behind the counter. The highlight of the reception area is the installation of modifying handmade birdcages affixed with white globe lights, create a one-ofits-kind lantern while preserving its tradition. They were assembled by the hotel team. The traditional bamboo cages, the antique rustic natural woods with luxurious furnishing used extensively in the decor at lobby creates a sophisticated contemporary design born from Balinese architecture and interior design.
Located at the left side of the hotel, the wooden wraparound terrace is a favourite spot for breakfast to be enjoyed at round or picnic style long tables, with a full range of set nasi lemak, omelette, scramble eggs, American breakfast, chicken rendang for guest’s selection. A decorative screen invites in a cool breeze while maintaining the privacy of relaxing guests. Unwind to the sight and sound of water tricking over black rocks while having delicious breakfast in the peace and quiet of the town.
