The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Jakarta (HKETO Jakarta) today (August 26) launched the “Marvels in Hong Kong: 25 Years and Beyond” roving exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
Co-organised by HKETO Jakarta with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Office and the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the exhibition aims to underscore the remarkable achievements of the HKSAR over the past 25 years, as well as to highlight Hong Kong’s unlimited opportunities under the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and its appeal in such areas as tourism and culture.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition today, the Director-General of HKETO Jakarta, Mr Law Kin-wai, said that, on top of the city’s well-known traits in business and trade, there is a lot more about Hong Kong to marvel over. Through this exhibition, the multi-faceted appeal of Hong Kong will be showcased to the Malaysian community. HKETO Jakarta also presented at the ceremony the theme song of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR, “Heading Forward”, to share the joy and excitement of this important milestone of the HKSAR.
In his online address, the Commissioner for the Development of the GBA, Mr Tommy Yuen, pointed out that, with a population of over 86 million and a combined GDP of close to US$2 trillion, the GBA is a huge market comparable in scale to the ninth largest economy in the world. Hong Kong will continue to make best use of the advantages of “one country, two systems”, its highly market-oriented business environment underpinned by the rule of law, and its world-class professional services as well as infrastructure connectivity to help stakeholders in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations participate in and benefit from the GBA development.
Also speaking at the event, the Regional Director of Southeast Asia of the HKTB, Mr Raymond Chan, stated that the HKTB is excited to collaborate with HKETO Jakarta to showcase diverse Hong Kong neighbourhoods, such as West Kowloon Cultural District, Sham Shui Po and Central, at this exhibition to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR.
The guests joining the occasion also included the Deputy President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia, Datuk Ng Yih Pyng; the President of the Hong Kong-Malaysia Business Association, Mr Dixon Chew; and the Director of Malaysia of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Ms Hoh Jee Eng.
The Malaysia chapter of the “Marvels in Hong Kong: 25 Years and Beyond” roving exhibition will run at Paradigm Mall, a major shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur, from today until August 28, during which interactive sessions will be arranged to give out souvenirs to visitors. The exhibition will then be staged in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Manila, the Philippines, in September and October respectively to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR with local communities.
