The Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) has achieved a momentous milestone by being named Asia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre 2023 at the prestigious World Travel Awards ceremony held last night in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam. With its sprawling 52,000 square meters of versatile exhibition and convention space, MITEC proudly stands as Malaysia’s largest multipurpose venue for meetings, conferences, exhibitions, and lifestyle events.
Mala Dorasamy, the esteemed Chief Executive Officer of MITEC, who was also honoured as the Masterclass Woman CEO of the Year in 2022, expressed her elation: “It is an immense honour to receive this award, and it is a testament to the unwavering dedication and hard work of our team, the MITECians, as well as the steadfast support from our Board, stakeholders, clients, and suppliers. Despite the unpredictable business landscape in 2021, we remained resolute in our commitment to business sustainability. This included reskilling and upskilling our team, fostering operational innovation, driving digital transformation, and optimising our business model and revenue streams.”
MITEC’s remarkable track record underscores its ability to deliver world-class service, extraordinary culinary experiences, and an exceptional customer journey. Some of the standout events in 2023 include the 52nd Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Fair, which drew over 180,000 visitors and generated more than RM 300 million in total sales turnover. Additionally, the Absolut Festival x Festival Gaya Raya 2023, a 66-hour non-stop extravaganza, achieved a phenomenal turnover of more than 1.65 million visitors and generated RM 12.76 million in sales. Recent events also included the Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) with over 91,000 attendees.
In what has been an outstanding year for MITEC, the venue has secured over six prestigious awards, including Malaysia’s Best Tourism Destination, the HAPA Resilience Award 2023, Malaysia’s Best Hospitality & Tourism Personality for Positive Impact Leadership, HAPA Best 30 Chefs for Master of Banquet, and Chef of the Year at HAPA Awards Malaysia Series 2023-2024.
