AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK) has proudly announced the recommencement of flights between Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane, set to take off on 2nd July 2024. This strategic move not only marks a significant milestone for AirAsia Malaysia but also solidifies its position as the sole carrier offering direct flights to all 10 ASEAN nations.
The reestablishment of this route underscores AirAsia’s commitment to enhancing regional connectivity, fostering economic growth, and promoting cultural exchanges through tourism. With a vast network spanning across a region inhabited by approximately 800 million people, AirAsia plays a pivotal role in facilitating travel and trade within ASEAN, thereby contributing to job creation and stimulating various sectors of the economy.
As the largest budget carrier in ASEAN by passenger numbers, AirAsia’s role in driving economic prosperity within the region cannot be overstated. By reintroducing bi-weekly flights to Vientiane, the captivating capital of Laos, AirAsia aims to bolster regional connectivity and support the Lao government’s ambitious target of attracting 2.7 million international tourists in 2024.
In 2019, AirAsia emerged as the leading airline on the Kuala Lumpur-Vientiane route, serving nearly 50,000 passengers and solidifying its reputation as the preferred choice for travellers seeking affordable and convenient flights.
Bo Lingam, Group CEO of AirAsia Aviation Group, expressed the company’s dedication to ASEAN, stating, “Asean is where our brand and footprint are the strongest, and we are proud to be a truly ASEAN airline with the resumption of this route.” Lingam emphasised AirAsia’s role in democratising air travel across ASEAN, connecting 130 destinations across the region and beyond while significantly contributing to the economies of member nations.
Continuing its commitment to ASEAN integration, AirAsia pledges to support the ASEAN Open Skies Policy, aimed at increasing regional and domestic connectivity and enhancing trade opportunities within the ASEAN region.
In light of the route’s reinstatement, AirAsia has opened bookings for flights between Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane, offering special introductory fares starting from just RM99 for one-way trips from Kuala Lumpur and USD 39 from Vientiane, inclusive of all charges*.
Vientiane, situated gracefully along the Mekong River, stands as a cultural gem, blending tradition with modernity. The city’s landscape, adorned with remnants of French colonialism, Buddhist temples, and vibrant local traditions, offers a captivating tapestry for explorers. Notable attractions include Wat Si Saket, renowned for its unique architecture, and Pha That Luang, a revered gold-covered stupa symbolising Laos’ national pride. The Morning Market provides a bustling shopping experience, offering traditional crafts, luxurious silk, and fresh local produce, while the Patuxai Victory Monument stands as a testament to Laotian resilience and independence.
AirAsia’s reinstatement of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Vientiane not only facilitates travel but also strengthens the bonds between ASEAN nations, promoting economic prosperity and cultural exchange across the region.
