Malaysia Airlines proudly recommenced its inaugural daily flight from Kuala Lumpur to the Maldives today. Flight MH485, operated by the Boeing 737-800, departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) at 10:10am with a full load of 174 passengers. The four-hour 15-minute direct flight was greeted with a ceremonial water salute upon its arrival at Velana International Airport (MLE) at 11:25am local time. The return flight departs from MLE to KUL at 12:30pm local time.
This significant milestone marks Malaysia Airlines’ 13th destination in South Asia, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to expanding its footprint in key markets. The new route strengthens Malaysia Airlines’ position as a premier gateway to Asia and beyond, aligning with its strategic commercial objectives. Malaysia Airlines last operated direct flights to the Maldives in 2017.
This year, Malaysia Airlines is also launching three new destinations, including flights to Chiang Mai, Thailand (CNX) beginning on 15 August, and daily flights to Danang, Vietnam (DAD) starting on 24 September 2024.
In celebration of the new route, Malaysia Airlines is offering special promotional fares from now until 31 August 2024. These fares provide travellers with the opportunity to explore the Maldives’ breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and world-class resorts. Under the theme “The Time for the Maldives”, all-in return fares start from USD299 for Economy Class and are available for travel until 30 March 2025.
Travellers can also take advantage of add-ons featuring a 10% discount on ancillary bundles, such as value bundles, premium bundles, and the MH Traveller’s Trio bundle, which includes a standard seat, 10kg extra baggage, and access to the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge at KLIA.
Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), commented, “We are pleased to welcome Malaysia Airlines back to Velana International Airport. The reinstatement of this route to Malaysia, a popular destination for our travellers, strengthens regional connectivity. We are excited about the opportunities this partnership offers.”
