The Straits Resorts Medini has officially opened The Straits Spa, introducing a new wellness offering that blends personalised treatments and Malaysian hospitality with the cultural heritage of the Baba Nyonya community.
The opening was celebrated with an elegant afternoon gathering attended by approximately 60 invited guests, offering an immersive experience inspired by Peranakan culture, artistry, cuisine and wellness.
As a wellness-focused senior living resort in Medini, Johor, The Straits Resorts Medini incorporates wellness facilities as part of its wider offering. The introduction of The Straits Spa adds another dimension to this approach, creating a dedicated space for residents and guests to relax, rejuvenate and reconnect.

The celebration reflected the cultural inspiration behind the Spa, with many guests arriving in colourful Nyonya Kebaya attire. The programme brought together traditional Malaysian hospitality, wellness experiences, culinary traditions and entertainment in a setting designed to celebrate the cultural character of the region.
The afternoon began with an addressing speech by Ms Elvira Tan, Founder & CEO of The Straits Resorts Pte Ltd, who welcomed guests and shared her vision for The Straits Spa as a destination where relaxation, hospitality, culture and artistry come together.
Her address was followed by a special message from Ms Karen Leow of Mama Glow, The Straits Spa’s partner, who spoke about the importance of wellness and the shared commitment to creating meaningful experiences for guests.
The official opening was marked by a ceremonial ribbon-cutting led by Elvira Tan and Karen Leow, formally welcoming guests to experience The Straits Spa and its philosophy centred around the art of wellness.

Discovering the Art of Wellness
Following the ceremony, guests were invited to explore the Spa and learn more about the concept and philosophy behind its signature massage therapies.
Visitors were introduced to the techniques, care and attention to detail underpinning the Spa’s wellness offering, with selected treatments available for guests to experience first-hand.

A highlight of the afternoon was the opportunity for guests to enjoy complimentary 15-minute massage treatments, offering a brief introduction to the Spa experience. Selected guests were also treated to an exclusive one-hour massage therapy, providing a more immersive experience of its signature treatments.
The celebration then continued at The Straits Brasserie, where guests enjoyed a specially prepared Peranakan High Tea inspired by the rich culinary traditions of the Peranakan community.
The spread complemented the Nyonya-inspired celebration, bringing together a selection of traditional flavours and delicacies in an elegant setting.
Celebrating Malaysian Culture Through Food, Music and Wellness
One of the highlights of the celebration was a live appearance by renowned Dapor Diva celebrity Chef Shirley Tay.
Known for her engaging approach to Peranakan food and culture, Chef Shirley entertained guests with a lively singing performance featuring songs from the 1960s before demonstrating the preparation of Nasi Ulam, a traditional Malaysian herb rice salad.

The interactive session brought together music, storytelling and culinary heritage, giving guests an opportunity to experience another dimension of Malaysia’s diverse cultural traditions.
Guests also had the opportunity to win lucky draw prizes, including Spa, accommodation and dining vouchers, allowing them to continue their experience at The Straits Resorts beyond the opening celebration.
The afternoon concluded with every guest receiving a special token of appreciation. Guests were also offered the opportunity to purchase specially curated Spa vouchers at exclusive opening-day promotional rates.
With an emphasis on personalised wellness, signature massage therapies and thoughtful hospitality, The Straits Spa aims to provide residents and guests with a sanctuary where they can pause, reconnect and experience the restorative qualities of wellness in an environment inspired by Malaysian heritage.
