The 55th edition of the MATTA Fair September 2024 was officially launched today at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kuala Lumpur. This highly anticipated event, taking place from 6–8 September, continues to be a key platform for showcasing domestic and international travel opportunities. Recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records as the “Largest International Travel Fair” for the second time, MATTA Fair features 1,590 exhibition booths, surpassing last year’s record of 1,416 booths.
This year’s spotlight is on the captivating states of Sabah and Sarawak, under the theme “Discover Borneo: Malaysia’s Favourite Destination.” The vibrant cultural heritage and stunning landscapes of Borneo are on full display, uniting the two states in a shared effort to attract travelers.
During the opening ceremony, YB Datuk Christina Liew, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment Sabah, expressed her pride in leading this year’s effort to highlight Borneo. “The Sabah Tourism Board, alongside 33 travel agents, hotels, and local artisans, is thrilled to showcase the best of our state with 60 booths under the Sabah Zone,” she said. Visitors to the Sabah booths can enjoy special travel promotions, including rebates of up to RM150 on Sabah tour packages.
n a show of solidarity, YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts Sarawak, emphasized the importance of collaboration between Sabah and Sarawak. He invited attendees to explore Sarawak’s unique cultural offerings, and highlighted recent achievements like the inscription of Niah Caves as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Sarawak’s upcoming state airline, which will further enhance connectivity.
The event also featured remarks from Nigel Wong, President of MATTA, who emphasized the need for the tourism industry to adapt to changing times. “The MATTA Fair is more than just an exhibition; it is an immersive experience into the world of travel and tourism,” said Wong. He also highlighted MATTA’s commitment to sustainable tourism, with a recent partnership with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council aimed at encouraging sustainable practices within the industry.
International destinations are a key focus of the event, with Taiwan taking centre stage as the “International Favourite Destination.” Visitors can explore travel options from a variety of global destinations, including Japan, Turkey, and South Korea.
With support from key partners, including Malaysia Aviation Group, RHB Bank, and MITEC, MATTA Fair continues to play a vital role in promoting travel and tourism. As visitors flock to the fair, they are encouraged to explore exclusive offers and embark on new adventures, both in Borneo and beyond.
