Sarawak proudly welcomed the inaugural arrival of the Coral Geographer, a cruise ship operated by Australia-based Coral Expeditions, on November 19, 2024. Carrying 125 passengers—primarily Australians—along with two lecturers and seven expedition crew members, the ship was greeted at Kuching’s port with a lively cultural reception and a traditional garlanding ceremony.
Passengers enjoyed a range of curated shore excursions showcasing Sarawak’s diverse attractions. The itineraries featured a Kuching City Tour, including a visit to the iconic Borneo Cultures Museum, and an enriching trip to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre, where orangutans were observed in their natural habitat. Adventurous options included birdwatching at Kubah National Park, known for its biodiversity, and an immersive exploration of Bako National Park, famed for its breathtaking landscapes and wildlife.
Before arriving in Kuching, the Coral Geographer made a stop in Miri on November 17, 2024. During their visit, passengers explored the Miri-Sibuti Reef National Park for diving activities and visited Lambir Hills National Park and the recently designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Niah National Park.
The smooth facilitation of the Coral Geographer’s visit was managed by GAC and Fortune Shipping, ensuring seamless logistics for the passengers. The cruise ship is scheduled to return to Kuching on December 26, 2024, for a second visit, further strengthening its connection to the region.
